SYNOPSIS

Neil Road, which links the Historic District of Chinatown/Tanjong Pagar to the Blair Plain Conservation area, is the site of Singapore’s first conservation project that was carried out over 20 years ago by the URA at no. 9, Neil Road. At the other end of Neil Road, at no. 157, is the site of the most recent URA demonstration project (also known as the NUS Baba House).

The tour will begin in the URA Centre, with an overview of the origins of the Tanjong Pagar Conservation District, as well as an explanation of the conservation approaches taken to Nos. 9 and 157 Neil Road.

Participants will then be led on a walk along Neil Road to see some of the conservation projects on site. The tour ends with a special visit to the NUS Baba House, to understand the challenges and the architectural solutions behind the restoration of this rare intact 19th Century residence. 

To better protect the NUS Baba House, please note that you will be required to remove your shoes when visiting the upper floors of the house.

ABOUT THE TOUR LEADER

The tour will be led by Mr Kelvin Ang, Deputy Director of Conservation Management in the URA. He has been involved in Conservation work for over a decade, and was part of the consultant and architectural team behind the restoration of the NUS Baba House at 157 Neil Road.

ADMISSION/ REGISTRATION

Admission is FREE. Advanced registration is required. 

Places are limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis. Each person can sign up for a maximum of two Guided Tours. 

The events are subject to change. Registered participants will be informed as soon as possible. 

Donations are welcome to help with the conservation of the NUS Baba House.
